The University of the State of Rio de Janeiro's Faculty of Law was founded in 1935 under the name Faculty of Juridical Sciences. The faculty stands out for the imminence of its professors - among which ministers, lawyers and renowned jurists can be found - and is considered one of the best Brazilian Law Schools.
The Bachelor Degree takes five years (divided into 10 semesters) to be concluded. J.D. candidates must attend 4,500 hours of compulsory subjects' classes and 250 hours of optional subjects' classes. Furthermore, they must carry out 240 hours of complementary activities and present a written work (between 50 and 100 pages or approximately 24,000 words) before an examining board composed by three law professors.
